AmeriCorps: A Network of Service Programs

For the past few years, Cascadia Conservation District has had an AmeriCorps volunteer. AmeriCorps was created in 1993 when President Clinton signed the National and Community Service Trust Act.

AmeriCorps addresses some of the nation’s most pressing needs including education, health and the environment through a network of service programs. The service programs are Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA), National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC), and AmeriCorps State and National. Service terms and some benefits vary depending on the program, but volunteers receive a modest living allowance and upon successful completion of their program, an educational award.
